College Advisement

Whittier Christian High School prides itself in its dynamic academic counseling department.

Our college advisors work alongside students to help them discover and use their God-given talents to reach educational and career success. Advisors meet with every student, every semester. This individual attention from 9th through 12th grade ensures that students are well informed about the college application process and adequately prepared for the transition to college or vocational school. 

In addition, we provide you and your family with the tools you need to assist in making decisions for the next step. Along your high school journey, we offer several college planning and spiritual growth tools, including specially created college/career days, detailed information nights on SAT and ACT tests, and a personalized online portal called Family Connection. Through Family Connection, parents and students can organize college planning. Together, they discover unique aspects of the student’s identity and career interests correlating with specific colleges and their majors. Our college advisors personally care about your student and desire to see them discover God’s calling for their future.

Quick Fact: The Class of 2012 received over 5 million in university scholarships.

Advisement Services

Grade 9

Guaranteed Services:

  • Initial orientation to get acquainted and to review school’s graduation requirements through a power point presentation with individual guidance
  • Review Explore results (pre-cursor to the PLAN) and schedule classes for Freshman year.
  • Inform students of the services offered by the Advisement office
  • Welcome Day event for student and parents to help to help with a successful transition into high school.
  • Family Connection sign-up and introduction to learn about the available services/resources
  • Create and review of student’s four-year plan; provide student and parent with a copy
  • Career Interest Inventory and Personality Inventory taken, along with results presentation
  • Freshmen meeting with student and parents in Advisors office where copy of transcript, graduation status report, WCHS programs, NCAA/NAIA Guidelines, UC/CAL State requirements and other pertinent information will bee discussed and information provided
  • Counsel students with poor progress reports or quarter grades and confer with parents when necessary

Available Services:

  • Assistance with scheduling and program adjustments
  • Assistance with personal, social or academic concerns
  • Review achievement testing results

Grade 10

Guaranteed Services:

  • Meet with student and provide student and parent with a copy of Advisor’s notes on transcript and graduation status report (1st & 2nd semester meetings)
  • Emphasize importance of sophomore and junior grades for admission to college
  • Provide information on PSAT/SAT Reasoning Test and the PLAN/ACT
  • Elaborate on Family Connection services in relationship to preparation for college
  • Counsel and advise students with poor progress reports or quarter grades and confer with parents if necessary
  • Advise the students of the requirements of the UC, Cal State and private/Christian universities
  • PLAN (practice ACT) given to all sophomores and results are reviewed with parent and/or student

Available Services:

  • Assistance with scheduling or program adjustments
  • Assistance with personal, social or academic concerns

Grade 11

Guaranteed Services:

  • Meet with student and provide student and parent with a copy of Advisor’s notes on transcript and graduation status report (1st and 2nd semester meetings)
  • Review Career assessments in Family Connection and evaluate tentative career goals to develop post-secondary educational plans
  • Provide and review their transcripts, graduation status reports, and UC and Cal State eligibility reports
  • Identify students who are college bound and inform them about SAT reasoning tests, SAT subject tests and ACT test
  • Advise them of deficient grades or D’s in college prep classes for Cal State, Private, Christian and UC universities
  • Review student’s four-year plan and assist in selecting courses for twelfth grade
  • Advise students with poor progress reports or quarter grades and confer with parents if necessary
  • Re-Emphasize the importance of sophomore/junior grades for college admission
  • Provide college/career exploration exercises through the use of Family Connection
  • PSAT given to all juniors and results are reviewed/interpreted

Available Services:

  • Assistance with scheduling or program adjustments
  • Assistance with personal, social, or academic concerns
  • Provide information for fall, spring and summer SAT/ACT prep courses off and on campus 

Grade 12

Guaranteed Services:

  • Meet with student and provide student and parents with a copy of advisor’s notes on transcript and graduation status report (1st and 2nd semester meetings
  • Provide and review their transcripts, graduation status reports and UC and Cal State eligibility reports
  • College advisement
    • Application deadlines
    • Scholarship and financial aid information
    • Information on the application process through Family Connection
  • Review any deficiencies for graduation status
  • Advisement on post-secondary educational and/or career plans
  • Provide information regarding ACT, SAT Reasoning and SAT subject tests
  • Record college major and/or job plans
  • Mail home a copy of the student’s transcript and graduation status report
  • Encourage students and parents to attend National Christian College Fair and College/Career Seminars in the fall hosted by WCHS

Request Transcripts

To request a transcript fill out one of the following:

Forms can either be submitted in person at the Registrar’s Office or sent by mail to:

WCHS Registrar’s Office
501 N Beach Blvd.
La Habra, CA 90631

Enclose a check made payable to WCHS ($3.00 for each transcript).

Note: Transcript orders cannot be accepted by telephone, fax or email. All orders, including pick-up orders, are processed within three business days from when the order is received. A longer processing time may be required during peak periods.

Photo identification is required to pick up your transcript at the Registrar’s Office. If you authorize another individual to pick up your transcript, you must provide WCHS with a letter of authorization and that person must provide his or her own photo identification.

Transcripts ordered for pick-up and not claimed within 30 days are destroyed. 

In accordance with state and federal privacy laws, your signature is required for release of your academic transcript. A parent’s signature is required if a student is under 18 years of age.
