"Choices 2010" Spiritual Emphasis Week
Day one:
Steve Carter from Rock Harbor Church started our Spiritual Emphasis Week He shared from Psalm 1:1-3 and Deuteronomy 30:11-20 about the choices we make in life – whether life/death, blessing/cursing. He challenged the students to not be passive in choosing life, but to be actively committed to choosing life and honoring God. Steve ended with a encouragement to bring heaven to earth through our actions and attitudes – to choose life and take ownership of one’s faith. It was a great start to our Spiritual Emphasis week.
Day two:
Our second talk of Spiritual Emphasis Week was presented by Hank Fortner (pastor at Mosaic Church). He left the students with two challenges:
1) Discover – discover all you can about life, the world around us, and God. Ask questions and have people around you that can help you discover the answers.
2) Give – James 1:27 & 2:14-18 talked about giving and keeping yourself from the world. He emphasized putting our faith into action.
Days three and four:
The last two days students chose a break out session to attend and learn more about different topics (from dating to media). Our last Gathering had Jake Crammer (student chaplain) and Joel Nunnally (boys’ counselor) wrap up our time together. Jake challenged everyone to not let what God has been doing in our lives this week to stop, to keep going, to talk about it. Joel encouraged our students to keep moving forward and to continue to grow in their faith. He ended with a thought about how Christ + nothing = everything.
This was a very successful “Choices: 2010” conference!
