WORLDVIEWS and Current Ethical Issues- (1 Semester Each)This course meets the senior Bible requirement and covers the development of a Christian worldview and its application to current issues facing Christians --- marriage and family, abortion, entertainment, and church-state matters. Recommended for honors and college prep students who need to make room in their schedule for other classes.
LIT/COMP (Administrative Approval only)- (2 Semesters)This course is designed for those students who need to retake an English class for graduation but do not desire to remain in the college prep curriculum. Your current English teacher or counselor must recommend you for this class.
ENGLISH 1(Administrative Approval only)- (2 Semesters) This course is for students who have taken ESL or English Prep Skills during their freshman year and wish to graduate with a college prep diploma.
ENGLISH 2 (Administrative Approval only)- (2 Semesters) This course is for students wishing to meet the English requirements of the college prep diploma for original credit or makeup credit.
ESL (English as a Second Language)- (2 Semesters) This course is designed to encourage and facilitate use of the English language. Classroom time will include practice in listening, speaking, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing skills. Students will also study American culture, holidays, and traditions. Student placement will be confirmed by instructor.
PRE-ALGEBRA (2 Semesters 8:30-10:00 only) This course is for students who would like to proceed to Algebra 1 in the fall. By completing this course with a “C” or higher in the second semester, a student has met the prerequisite for college prep Algebra 1.
GEOMETRY(original credit for 11th and 12th grade only)- (2 Semesters) This course is designed for those students entering 11th or 12th grade in the fall for original credit who have completed Algebra 1 with a C- or better.
HONORS GEOMETRY (Administrative Approval only)- (2 Semesters) This course is for next year’s sophomores who were in a college prep math class last year but wish to move into the honors math track.
HEALTH (There is also an online version)- (1 Semester offered both semesters)This course is a semester survey of Health. During the course this class will focus upon your health and well-being, physical fitness, managing stress, body systems, medicines, drugs and diseases.
SPEECH- (1 Semester offered both semesters)A one-semester speech class is required of every student. Communication, listening, and formal speech will be included in this class. Verbal and nonverbal communication, mass communication, small interpersonal group communication, and relational communication are areas of class discussion and study. Writing and organizing speeches, as well as instruction on delivery, prepares students for the practical experience of standing before the class delivering an impromptu, an expository, or a persuasive speech.
WORLD HISTORY I- (2 Semesters) (Incoming Freshman Only and for Credit Recovery)-A basic survey of world civilizations from earliest times to the 16th Century, including the Ancient Greece, Rome, China and India, the Byzantine and Islamic Empires, Africa, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Reformation. Course content includes the political, philosophical, and cultural legacies of ancient Asian, African, and European civilizations, emphasizing both their independence and their interaction with one another.
WORLD HISTORY II- (2 Semesters) A sophomore level course in the Social Studies Program that earns 10 credits. Students in World History II study the history, religion, government and cultures of Modern civilizations, with an emphasis on the interactions and connections among regional civilizations. A distinctive feature of World History II at WCHS is an emphasis on the critical evaluation of historical narratives from an internal approach (strength of argument) and an external approach (worldview analysis).
U. S. HISTORY- (2 Semesters) This course is for college prep juniors who need to make room in their schedule for other classes during the school year. It is a study of American history from the colonial era to the present.
U.S. GOVERNMENT- (First Semester/First 3 Weeks)This course is for college prep seniors who need to make room in their schedule for other classes. Seniors taking this class must take 5 classes during the school year (4 of these must be credit earning)-
ECONOMICS- (Second Semester/ Second 3 Weeks)This course is for college prep seniors who need to make room in their schedule for other classes. Seniors taking this class must take 5 classes during the school year (4 of these must be credit earning)
BIOLOGY- (2 Semesters) This course fulfills a one year college prep lab science requirement and includes microscope work, lab drawings, chemical tests, dissections and laboratory observations.
COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING- (2 Semesters) Using Python® as a primary tool and incorporating multiple platforms and languages for computation, this course aims to develop computational thinking, generate excitement about career paths that utilize computing, and introduce professional tools that foster creativity and collaboration. While this course can be a student's first in computer science, students without prior computing experience are encouraged to start with Introduction to Computer Science. CSE helps students develop programming expertise and explore the workings of the Internet. Projects and problems include app development, visualization of data, cybersecurity, and simulation. The course curriculum is a College Board-approved implementation of AP CS Principles.
ART 1- (2 Semesters) Art 1 will provide an introduction to art history, demonstration, production and critique. There will be 2-3 projects per week ranging from pencil and charcoal to watercolor and pastel. A wide variety of styles will be explored including field trips to galleries and museums.
Art 2- (2 Semesters) Art 2 will prepare students to go deeper in their related art consentration and will also propell them to understanding more classical art. Their are weekly projects and detailed art theory is broadened.
